Murals completed by YSU Department of Art students at local businesses TREK Coffee House and Vallourec Star were recently recognized during the 17th annual Beautification Awards ceremony November 9, 2023, presented by Youngstown CityScape. Both TREK and Vallourec received Beautification Awards for businesses.

Youngstown CityScape presents the Beautification Awards to businesses, neighborhood groups, and individuals who take the time to clean up, reenergize, or care for an urban area in the city of Youngstown. As part of the recent ceremony, three businesses, four public institutions, and 11 individuals were awarded for their hard work in the Youngstown community.

The TREK Coffee House mural was unveiled October 30, 2023. Professor of art Dragana Crnjak, who led the project, provided guidance to students enrolled in her Mural and Site-Specific Painting course as they collaborated with each other in the process of designing and completing the mural for TREK.

The Vallourec Star mural was unveiled May 23, 2023. Crnjak also led this project, advising art students Michelle Davis, Lindsay DeLullo, and Aliana Peccon as they sketched out and painted their artistic vision onto the Division Street tunnel entrance in Youngstown.

Youngstown CityScape is a non-profit community development organization whose vision is to encourage revitalization of downtown Youngstown, YSU’s campus, and adjacent neighborhoods in an effort to provide an attractive working and living environment for Youngstown citizens.
