Scottish printmaker Murray Robertson to join Department of Art Lecture Series
November 10, 2020
Scottish printmaker Murray Robertson will present as part of the Department of Art Lecture Series Wednesday, November 18 at 1:45 on Webex.
Robertson studied at the Glasgow School of Art and has continued his work as a master printer at the Glasgow Print Studio in Glasgow, Scotland. While maintaining his interest in traditional fine art printmaking, his practice is most influenced by the research, development, and application of new technologies—digital imaging and printing, specifically.
Robertson derives inspiration for his work from his engagement with varied interdisciplinary projects. Diagrammatic representations and their related iconography have motivated his recent works, which explore relevant myth, history, geology, and the environment. His sources include textbooks on natural history, early- and contemporary-printed maps, scientific and technological imagery, and cultural icons.
The lecture will be free to watch and is open to the public.
