The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located on the second floor of YSU’s Bliss Hall, is featuring local artist and DJ Nasir Watson in its annual Black History Month exhibition that will be open to the public Thursday, February 1, through Thursday, February 22.

Watson was raised in Youngstown and its surrounding areas and now lives in Pittsburgh. Best known for his painting and photography work, his live painting exhibitions have been viewed in downtown Youngstown and featured at the Flow Gallery in Pittsburgh’s North Shore District. He has also created a collection of graphic t-shirts as an extension of his artwork under the label “Telli Faces.”

Watson’s artwork takes on a neo-expressionist approach, utilizing colorful and abstract methods to join oil, pastel, and acrylic paint on paper. His goal is to educate and equip communities with resources to articulate and address issues on both an individual and communal level.

The gallery will hold an opening reception for Watson’s exhibit Monday, February 5, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM. Watson will then present an artist talk the same day from 6:00 – 7:30 PM at the McDonough Museum of Art. Entry to the exhibit, reception, and artist talk is free and open to the public.
