Guest artist Ron Copeland to present as part of Department of Art Lecture Series

September 11, 2025

YSU’s Department of Art will welcome guest artist Ron Copeland to present as part of the Department of Art Lecture Series Thursday, September 18, at 4:30 PM at the McDonough Museum of Art.

Copeland, who is currently exhibiting “Fragmented Narrative: Language of the Sign” in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist whose work spans sign painting, assemblage, murals, printmaking, photography, and sculpture.

Rooted in a reverence for typography, design, and reclaimed materials, Copeland’s work is an engagement with the visual language of vintage signage and an advertisement of a bygone era into fragmented, dream-like reinterpretations of the past. In “Fragmented Narrative,” Copeland paints, screenprints, and hand-letters on gathered and recontextualized visual fragments from across the Rust Belt and beyond.

Originally from Northeast Ohio, Copeland began his creative journey in the sign and printing industries. He later established his art practice in Pittsburgh, where his career expanded through numerous solo and group exhibitions both across the country and beyond.

Entry to this event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Wick Avenue Deck (M30) for a $5 fee payable in cash only.
