Department of Art students complete mural for Vallourec Star

The YSU Department of Art unveiled its newest mural, commissioned by Vallourec Star, at the Division Street tunnel in Youngstown, Ohio May 23, 2023. Completed in collaboration with Vallourec, the City of Youngstown, and Youngstown CityScape, the mural was inspired by Vallourec’s history and values, including safety and community outreach.
Vallourec commissioned the mural as part of its community outreach program and the Youngstown Beautification Project. Led by professor of art Dragana Crnjak, YSU art students Michelle Davis, Lindsay DeLullo, and Aliana Peccon were selected to work on the project based on their art experience and rendering skills. Working together, the group created a sketch for the project and began working on the mural once final approval of the sketch was received from Vallourec.
The completed mural includes designs of a blast furnace, a ladle pouring molten steel, and images of water, greenery, and recycling. These elements were combined to showcase Vallourec’s industrial impact and their work towards environmental sustainability in the Mahoning Valley.
