Judith Rae Solomon Gallery to welcome artist Nils P Johnson

Cliffe College of Creative Arts will welcome artist Nils P. Johnson to the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery in Bliss Hall, located on YSU’s campus. Johnson’s exhibit, “Color Up! Paintings by Nils P. Johnson,” will open April 3, 2023 and run through April 20. An artist reception will be held Wednesday, April 12 from 4:30 – 6:30 in the gallery.

Johnson is an elected member of the Allied Artists of America, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and the Copley Society in Boston. His work has been displayed by The Butler Institute of American Art and Dartmouth College. He regularly exhibits his paintings in shows throughout New England and New York City. In 2022, he was Artist-in-Residence at the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown for the Copley Society, where he completed a mural for the Ohio Supreme Court. His mural, “Canfield 4th of July,” is displayed at the Canfield County Court. Johnson is also releasing a book titled “Color Up – a Better Way to Paint” about his painting technique.

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery is located on the second floor of YSU’s Bliss Hall. It is open to the public Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Parking is available in the Wick Avenue Parking Deck (M30) for a $5 fee in cash only. For GPS directions to the Wick Deck, use 453 Wick Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 44502. To easily access Bliss Hall, patrons should park on the third level of the Wick Deck and use the sidewalk behind the McDonough Museum of Art.
