Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) welcomes Kyla Zoe Rafert

October 17, 2022

As part of the YSU Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS), YSU will welcome artist Kyla Zoe Rafert to campus. Rafert will lecture on mixed-media techniques Monday, October 17, 2022 at 5:10 PM in the McDonough Museum of Art lecture hall (room 3000), with a demonstration being held Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 AM in room 4025 of Bliss Hall, located on YSU’s campus.

Rafert’s work is based on psychological and historical aspects. She creates highly-detailed works of women in surrealistic, psychologically-potent historical scenes, with a focus on the conflicting expectations society has for women and girls.

Rafert earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has been the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including residencies at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, The Vermont Studio Center, and Women’s Studio Workshop. She is a member of the International Guild of Realism and her work has been nationally recognized by Create Magazine, New American Paintings, and American Art Collector.

Rafert lives in central Ohio with her family, where she paints and tends to a large garden and herd of livestock.
