Department of Art to host Art Day event for prospective students

YSU’s Department of Art invites prospective students to attend Art Day, an on-campus event designed for high school students interested in art, design, and other creative careers, Wednesday, October 21, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at YSU’s Bliss Hall.
“Art Day is a chance for prospective students to experience the energy and creativity of YSU’s Department of Art,” Department of Art professor and chair Joy Christiansen Erb said. “Rather than simply hearing about our programs, students can spend the day in our studios, meet our faculty and students, make artwork, and get a real sense of what it is like to study art at YSU.”
Art Day will include faculty-led demonstrations and hands-on workshops across a range of artistic disciplines. Attendees will be able to see artists and designers at work, learn about different creative processes and techniques, and create alongside YSU faculty and students. Tours of the department will introduce participants to the specialized studios, classrooms, and creative spaces available to YSU art students.
In addition to studio experiences, the event will introduce prospective students to the academic and professional opportunities available through the department. Faculty and students will share information about YSU’s art and design programs, while presentations will explore career opportunities in art and design, professional development, and the many ways creative skills can translate into professional careers.
Finally, a student panel will allow attendees to hear directly from current art students about their experiences in the program, including studio courses, working with faculty, developing their creative practice, exhibiting their work, and being part of the Department of Art community.
Lunch will be provided at no cost to registered participants.
