YSU Jazz Ensemble to present concert featuring new music and jazz classics

The Dana School of Music’s Jazz Studies Area will present a concert by the YSU Jazz Ensemble Monday, February 17, at 7:30 PM at the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall.
Directed by professor of music Kent J. Engelhardt, the ensemble will perform a variety of jazz classics and a piece of new music. These selections include “Bird Count” by Maria Schneider; “Kids Are Pretty People” by Thad Jones; “Interlude” by Toshiko Akiyoshi; and “Gunslinging Bird” by Charles Mingus.
Joining the Jazz Ensemble will be vocalist Elizabeth Jadue, who will perform “That Old Black Magic” by Harold Arlen and “Willow Weep For Me” by Ann Ronnell. Jadue will also sing “Better” by Cody Fry, as arranged by Dana graduate student and lead alto saxophonist Andrea Richard.
Entry to this event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Wick Avenue Deck (M30) for a $5 fee payable in cash only.
