October 16, 2020
Six Dana School of Music students who play piano, guitar, saxophone, trombone, and the flute have been selected as the winners of a new music competition called the McDonough Honors Recital Series.
For consideration in the series, which is sponsored by the McDonough Museum of Art and the Dana School of Music at YSU, students were required to submit recordings of their performances online to faculty judges. The six winning students are then featured in high-definition video recordings of their performances on the McDonough Museum’s YouTube channel, as well as the YouTube channel for the Cliffe College of Creative Arts. Winners also receive a $100 honorarium.
The winning students include Michael Barren, piano; Kayla Gilmore, flute; Andrew Karkosiak, guitar; Noah Landry, saxophone; Bin Peng, flute; and Zak Rahal, trombone.
Barren and Karkosiak’s performances have already premiered on YouTube. Future premieres of performances include:

Zak Rahal – Saturday, November 21, at 7:00 PM
Bin Peng – Saturday, December 5, at 7:00 PM
