Jazz Quintet and Sextet concert to feature student compositions

Students in the YSU Jazz Quintet and Sextet will present their own compositions in a concert Thursday, November 4 at the Spotlight Theater in YSU’s Bliss Hall.
Both groups are led by professor of music Dave Morgan. The concert will feature original music by YSU students Chandler Carpenter, Brunswick, Ohio; Enzo Chiodi, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Lucas Ciesielski, Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania; and Antwan Howard, Warren, Ohio. The quintet and sextet will also feature music by composers Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, and Ornette Coleman.
“In the jazz combo program, we explore the relationship between improvisation and composition," Morgan said. "Each generation of jazz musicians develops its own unique take on the music. It’s exciting to hear the fresh voices of these young musicians emerge.”
The concert is free and open to the public. Masks are required in all YSU buildings.
