YSU’s Dana School of Music, home to the Dana Opera Ensemble, will present its annual spring opera event titled “Alcina” Friday, April 11, and Sunday, April 13, at the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall.

“Alcina,” an opera seria by George Frideric Handel, was composed in 1735. This Baroque opera explores themes of magic, illusion, and love, and is renowned for its dramatic and expressive music. The ensemble will explore a world of enchantment as “Alcina” challenges illusion versus reality, love versus betrayal, and the power of transformation.

The Dana Opera Ensemble, led by professor of music Misook Yun, is designed to help students learn about the complex process of creating an operatic experience. Through the mastery of roles, proper diction, and character development, students learn how to relate to other performers, choreograph their movements on stage, and follow a conductor while acting.

The Friday performance of “Alcina” will begin at 7:30 PM, with Sunday’s matinee beginning at 2:00 PM. Tickets for this event can be purchased by visiting ysu.tix.com. Parking for events in Bliss Hall is available at the Wick Avenue Deck (M30) for a $5 fee payable in cash only.
