“I Know Where I’ve Been” encore performance celebrates Juneteenth holiday

June 19, 2021

YSU’s Dana School of Music celebrated this year’s Juneteenth holiday with an encore of the virtual performance “I Know Where I’ve Been,” which was first recorded and released in June 2020 for Juneteenth.

The video, previously hosted on Zoom as part of the Voice of Color in Song event, features adjunct professor of voice and director of YSU’s Gospel Choir Jaron LeGrair singing the popular song from the musical “Hairspray.” LeGrair is accompanied by members of Voices of YSU, a vocal ensemble directed by associate professor of music Daniel Keown.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, slaves were officially freed over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect.
