African American History Month exhibition to open at McDonough Museum of Art

January 16, 2022

A day no one will remember

The McDonough Museum of Art will open artist Donald Black Jr.’s exhibition “A Day No One Will Remember” Friday, January 21, 2022 in recognition of African American History Month.

The exhibition will be open to the public through March 5, with Black giving a lecture on his work Wednesday, February 23 at 5:10 PM in the McDonough Museum of Art lecture hall (room 3000).

The exhibition is comprised of a series of photographs of ordinary days filled with childhood play, imagination, and innocence and centers on black children and their premature loss of adolescence. The images represent the balance against the mental suffering that takes place when personal trauma overwhelms a person. Created in Black’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, the images carry the city’s gritty, moody, and stark living conditions.

The McDonough Museum of Art is open 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday. Admission to the exhibit and lecture is free.
