Dana School of Music student earns 1st place award at NATS audition

Dana School of Music student Erica Walker was awarded 1st place in the Adult category at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) audition in Athens, Ohio October 21, 2023.

Mentored by professor of music Misook Yun, Walker earned her award in the Adult Classical Treble category of the auditions. As part of her performance, Walker was required to perform three contrasting musical selections from classical repertoire with a maximum length of 12 minutes. The required selections included one art song in English, one art song in a language other than English, and one additional art song or aria.

NATS was founded in 1944 and is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world, with nearly 7,000 members from the United States, Canada, and 30 other international countries. The Ohio chapter of NATS holds the fall auditions to offer students the opportunity to pursue individual performance goals while also providing them with supportive critiques that encourage the students to improve their vocal skills and artistry.
