Department of Art to host 2023 Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Art Awards exhibition

The YSU Department of Art will be hosting the 2023 Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Art Awards exhibition January 5 – 28, 2023. Showcasing artwork from 7th – 12th grade students in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, and Ashtabula counties, the exhibition is open to the public in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in Bliss Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, whose mission is to present the artistic and literary talent of exceptional students to the world. For consideration in the 2023 awards, the Alliance received over 300,000 works across 28 different categories from students across the United States and Canada.
The Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Art Awards ceremony will be held Saturday, January 28 at 11:00 AM in the YSU Ford Theater. The ceremony will feature awards given to students who received Gold and Silver Key awards from the Alliance for their artwork. Awards are given to those whose work exemplifies the Alliance’s core values of originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. The gallery is open weekdays from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Parking is available in the Wick Avenue Parking Deck (M30) for a $5 fee payable in cash only. To access Bliss Hall and reach the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, patrons should park in the Wick Deck and enter the building via the lobby entrance, which may be accessed via the walkway behind the McDonough Museum of Art, or use the Wick Avenue entrance.
