Missy McCormick - "notions"

"notions"

See the work of Featured Artist, Missy McCormick, in the Medici Museum of Art’s upcoming summer exhibitions. June 11-August 12, 2022. The opening reception is Saturday, June 11 from 4-8pm and is free and open to the public.

“Notions combines two bodies of work, which explore the same concept; the desire to manifest the perception, equivalent to holding contemplation or seeing calm. The mental and emotional spaces we inhabit, those that feel larger than life, like places we can visit and share with others, are ultimately intrinsically our own and only exist as personal notions or perceptions. Through the lens of the daily domestic life, utility, architecture, design and pattern give voice and substance to the quiet spaces that can only be seen and felt from within. Objects are examined and reimagined, paired down with a focus on the practical, structural, and essential elements, which gives this work the comfort of the familiar and a sense of simplicity, sincerity, and timelessness.”

Missy McCormick is an artist and educator currently living in Poland, OH. As an Associate Professor and Coordinator of 3D, she leads the Ceramics program in the Art Department at Youngstown State University.
