“Your DAW Can Do What?” OMEA Conference Presentation
Professor of music Daniel Keown was selected to give a presentation titled “Your DAW Can Do What? Exploring Strategies for Integrating DAWs to Teach Students Music Content” at the 2024 Ohio Music Education Association’s Professional Development Conference in Columbus. His presentation focused on the innovative use of digital studio workstation (DAW) technology in secondary school music classrooms.
Commercial Metal Forming Project
Professor of art Dragana Crnjak completed a large-scale commissioned project for Commercial Metal Forming, one of the largest tank-head manufacturers in the country. The 108” x 48” painting depicts the manufacturing process of transforming a flat steel sheet into a volumetric tank head.
Costume Rendering
Associate professor of theatre Katherine Garlick serves as the costume designer for many of YSU University Theatre’s productions. Part of her job is to examine scripts and discover the best ways to use clothing and costumes to assist in telling the story to the audience. A large portion of this process is called rendering, or putting design ideas onto the page. Watch Garlick’s process evolve here.
“Create a Recording Class” OMEA Conference Presentation
Lecturer of recording arts Bryan Helsel was selected to give a presentation titled “Create a Recording Class with Little or No Budget” at the 2024 Ohio Music Education Association’s Professional Development Conference in Columbus. His presentation educated high school teachers on the curricular outcomes, equipment, and goals necessary to create a recording class.
"Lightning Talk: Pittsburgh"
Professor of art Dana Sperry presented his talk "Lightning Talk: Pittsburgh" at the Applied Geography Conference held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania October 25 - 28, 2023. Sperry focused his talk on three artistic projects located in Pittsburgh, including his own audio walk thewhyhere.com.
"Women at the Piano"
Professor of music Caroline Oltmanns published an entry in the Journal of International Alliance of Women in Music titled "Women at the Piano." Among other topics, the article probes gender bias in concert programming.
New Puppetry Minor
Senior lecturer of theatre Todd Dicken has developed a new minor in puppetry. Open to all students on campus, the program will focus on innovative experiences in making objects come to life for the purpose of creating works of theatre.
