Cliffe College scholarships and awards for students

The College’s scholarships reward academic and artistic merit and reduce financial need for many students, including undergraduate, graduate, incoming, and continuing.

Our scholarships are competitive and are only available to students who have been admitted to or have declared a major in the College. They supplement other YSU scholarships and awards you receive as well as any additional financial aid.

To be considered for as many YSU, YSU Foundation, and College scholarships as possible, you should also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

A full listing of all College scholarships is available via the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship’s Scholarship Search.

Headshot of Avery

"The scholarships that I have received from Cliffe College have helped ease the pressure of student loans that college students have to deal with. I appreciate all of the support that I am able to get from the college, as their generosity is what helps students continue to learn and grow as artists."

Scholarship FAQ

No. All applicants to the Dana School of Music are automatically considered for these awards via their audition and other application materials, if required. Undergraduate applicants are not required to submit a separate scholarship application. Graduate applicants who wish to be considered for a graduate assistantship must complete a separate application through the YSU Graduate College.

Applicants will be notified of award decisions by email in early spring.

You have until May 1 to accept/decline your scholarship offer.

If you change your major to one outside of DSM, then you will no longer be considered for our school’s scholarships. If you change your major to a different one within DSM, you will still be considered for our scholarships. For further details on major requirements and eligibility, refer to each individual scholarship.

Students admitted to YSU may defer enrollment for up to one year. If a student completes the deferral process by the deadline, eligibility for our incoming, first-year scholarships will carry forward. Once you complete the form and enroll in full-time coursework for the new semester of attendance, your original scholarship offer should appear on your account that same semester. If you decide to defer, please let us know.

Scholarships are posted to your YSU Financial Aid Account. For information about how scholarships may affect your financial aid package—and for all other questions regarding financial aid—please contact the YSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

In addition to College-level scholarships, each department offers a wide variety of competitive- and performance-baed scholarships to both incoming and continuing students. Departmental scholarships are unique in terms of eligibility. Most Art scholarships require the submission of a digital portfolio. All Music scholarships, and most (but not all) Theatre scholarships, require an audition.
