Hope Center for Arts and Technology
The Hope Center for Arts and Technology, Inc. (HopeCAT) is non-profit institution based in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Their mission is to improve lives through education, mentorship, and inspiration for people in the region. Their programs are led by experts in their field, contributing to workforce development for employers and creating experiences through arts and culture. HopeCAT embraces and encourages creative thought, believing that given the chance to dream, anyone may have an opportunity to create something – a product, artwork, a business – that will change the world.
One of the many programs available at HopeCAT is providing free after-school visual art classes for students in grades 7-12 from the surrounding region, with the goal of increasing positive mentorship and leading students to pathways that create productive citizens in their communities. The HopeCat Youth Arts Exhibition was on display at the McDonough and featured work by participants in each of the HopeCAT studios and included painting/drawing studio, printmaking, and ceramics. Our director worked with HopeCAT Youth Arts and Farrell Area School District’s 10th Grade African American History class to create a curated timeline for their Living Museum project. We explored the topic of curation using exhibits in the museum as examples. During the summer we give extended tours to their summer arts camp students, including discussion about the exhibits with related activities.
