Your creative future lives here

The Graphic + Interactive Design program at YSU uses a ground-breaking approach that allows students to explore the expansive field of graphic and interaction design based on their needs and interests. Our alumni work locally, regionally, and nationally for employers that touch every aspect of our lives. You may find a selected list of alumni and the positions they hold here.

Our current students are working toward future positions as designers, art directors, and marketing directors, reimagining how we communicate as a society for companies near and far, such as Walt Disney Studios (Orlando, FL), Southwest Airlines (Dallas, TX), Sherwin Williams Corporate Headquarters (Cleveland, OH), and Palo Creative (Youngstown, OH).

Graphic + Interactive Design Studio Spaces

As a design student, you will work in collaborative workspaces dedicated to design instruction, inspiration, and critique. The introductory studio allows students stationary access to the technology needed to complete their course work, along with dedicated power hubs enabling them to charge any of their own devices. Our advanced design studio has mobile furniture to allow each course to configure the space to support educational needs. This design studio may be moved and configured to support small learning pods that enable students to form learning groups that help support their individual growth. It is expected that most students have laptops by the time they are taking advanced coursework. Enrollment in all courses provides a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud Software during the length of the course.

Experience how enriching student life can be

You’ll thrive in a community whose context exists within the diverse fabric of our region, thereby honoring a special focus on dissemination and sensitivity to a wide cultural heritage. These expanded horizons will enable you to leverage your own power of creativity, and you’ll be immersed in pushing the boundaries of making art.

We know that you have interests that lie beyond what you're making or studying and becoming involved in Art or university student organizations is an ideal way to pursue those interests. YSU has more than 200 diverse student organizations, and we encourage you to join one or more of them.

Your safety is a top priority. YSU’s full-service Police Department protects our campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and an officer is never more than a phone call away.

Youngstown and the surrounding areas are the perfect places to discover a community with dynamic arts and cultural organizations, and the Department of Art is a key component in our thriving creative and cultural community. You’ll find art, culture, and picturesque locales all around Youngstown. There’s always something to see and do.

Future Forming

Our program is designed to help you define future goals as design professionals through imagination and dedication. The coursework allows students to explore typography, imagery, grids, systems, branding, and more in creating everything from posters and logos to apps and other digital screen-based designs.
