Graduate admissions

We’re excited you’re interested in pursuing graduate studies at the Dana School of Music!

Step 1: Apply to the YSU Graduate College

Before auditioning or interviewing for acceptance into the Dana School of Music (DSoM), you must be admitted to the YSU Graduate College. If you have questions about the application process, contact the YSU Graduate College.

Apply now to YSU

If you’re a current SDoM graduate student, your process is different. Find out more information here.

Step 2: Apply to the Dana School of Music (or Schedule your audition)

All programs in DSoM require an audition, and some also require an interview. If the degree program you wish to pursue requires an audition and an interview, both will be scheduled on the same day.

Schedule an audition

If you have questions about DSoM requirements, contact _____________@ysu.edu.

Step 3: Prepare for and complete your audition

For information about the audition process for the program you wish to pursue, visit that area’s audition page. Complete an audition and/or interview, as applicable to your program.

Additional admissions information

You should expect an admissions decision from us no later than April 1. The enrollment response date for graduate students is April 15 and for undergraduate students is May 1.

Studio Placement is based on space availability in faculty studios and student requests. Upon admission, please reach out directly to your preferred teacher to confirm your studio. All incoming students are guaranteed placement with a faculty member by orientation week.

Spring admission (students beginning in January) is limited and is dependent upon space availability in individual departments. For optimal merit-based financial aid consideration, fall admission is encouraged. If you’re interested in spring term admission, contact Stephanie Waltman, Cliffe College Coordinator of Admissions + Recruitment at sawaltman@ysu.edu.
