Audition requirements

Admission to the B.F.A. in Theatre (Acting) and B.F.A. in Musical Theatre requires an audition. Admission to the B.F.A. in Theatre (Design Tech) does not require an audition.

Auditions

Each year, on-campus auditions are held over three weekends early in the spring term. If you are unable to attend one of these audition dates, contact University Theatre to make alternative arrangements.

Auditions for admission during the 2025-26 academic year are:

  • January 24, 2026
  • February 14, 2026
  • February 21, 2026

Frequently asked questions

Before an audition may be scheduled, your completed Youngstown State University application must be on file.
 

Schedule your audition

Once your YSU application is on file, you may schedule your audition date. If you need special accommodations, contact University Theatre.
 
You’ll receive the schedule and details regarding your audition via email at least 30 days prior to your selected audition date. Your audition(s) will be scheduled between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Please wait to make travel plans until after you receive official confirmation of your audition date and time.

Yes. All students should apply thorough the YSU Foundation Scholarship Application.

You should expect an admission decision from us no later than two weeks after your audition.
