Design Tech

Stagecraft + design

If you excel behind the scenes and are passionate about the artistry of theatre, YSU's Design Tech major is the ideal path for you. This hands-on program is designed for students who wish to pursue their interests in set design, lighting, sound, costumes, or stage management.

From day one, students engage in practical, hands-on learning—constructing sets, designing lighting and sound, managing productions, and collaborating closely with directors and performers to bring theatrical visions to life. Whether just beginning or advancing their design work, students refine their craft through creative problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork.

Our program fosters artistic growth while preparing students for the demands of the entertainment industry—whether in theatre, film, live events, or beyond. With opportunities ranging from full-scale stage productions to short 10-minute plays, students gain extensive experience in leadership roles and graduate with the confidence, skills, and professional readiness needed to excel in the field.
