At the conclusion of the Spring 2020 semester, the College of STEM launched its inaugural First Destination Survey to its Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 graduates. A first destination survey is used to determine what graduates are doing after they leave YSU.

It is almost unbelievable that we just finished our first two weeks of the 20-21 academic year. In a blink of an eye, we went from closing the College due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all the way to starting the new academic year.

The STEM College would like to announce the recipients who have received awards from the Academic Affairs Division. These awards were given to faculty and chairs of their respective departments for exhibiting exceptional leadership during 2019-2020 academic school year.

Alexandra Ballow, a junior mathematics and physics double major at YSU, is among only 396 college students nationwide to receive the Goldwater Scholarship this year, from a field of 1,343 mathematics, science and engineering students from 461 colleges and universities.

The STEM Professional Services office in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics hosts the semi-annual Fall 2018 STEM Expo from 12 to 4 p.m. October 4, 2018 in Stambaugh Stadium, Gymnasiums A & B at Youngstown State University.

YSU STEM participated in the Early Genius Program, organized by KTSDI and Stadium Drive Elementary in Boardman, Ohio. YSU, along with area STEM-related businesses, provided hands-on activities to demonstrate STEM concepts.

Dr. Alina Lazar, Computer Science and Information Systems Professor, is leading her research team through another summer, with new students, at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California.

Edwin V. Bishop, affectionately known to his students as "Dr. Jupiter” when he was a professor of Physics and Astronomy at YSU, died April 25 at the age of 82. A memorial service was held on May 6, in Florence Congregational Church, Florence, Mass.

STEM Professional Services has provided students with another successful STEM Expo! More than 600 students attended the expo in hopes to score an internship or co-op with nearly 70 employers. There are two STEM Expo's held every year, one in both the fall and spring semester.

Bird Day was a fund raising event that the YSU Biology Club held for the local bird sanctuary, Birds in Flight, located in the Warren/Niles area. Birds in Flight rescues, rehabilitates, and releases over 1000 birds per year without any government assistance.
