Student Spotlight: Nathanial Morgret

Nathanial Morgret, a sophomore majoring in Electrical Engineering at YSU, is part of a Choose Ohio First research opportunity with Pymatuning Fabrication Lab to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 with their 3D printed face shields.
While doing the research opportunity for Pymatuning Fabrication Lab, Nathanial Morgret has assembled fifteen 3D printers which are used to print the visor portion of the face shield. The visors hold a piece of plastic overhead transparency film to protect the face from something as small as a droplet spray. The printers are capable of producing 500 visors a day. Due to financial limitations, they are currently able to produce 200-300 visors per day.
Mr. Morgret enjoys the ability to develop new technologies and redevelop old tech to better help society. He also enjoys assembling what is known into something previously unknown. Mr. Morgret’s father saw this as an opportunity to help protect healthcare workers until commercial manufacturers were able to keep up with demand.
Mr. Nathanial Morgret and the Pymatuning Fabrication Lab have donated around 6,000 face shields to 9 hospitals, 19 nursing homes, 5 hospices, 10 doctor’s offices, and 7 other places throughout Ashtabula, Trumbull, Lake, Geauga, and Mahoning counties in Ohio; Crawford county, PA; Detroit, MI; and Dayton, OH.
Nathanial Morgret will graduate from YSU in Spring of 2022. After graduation, Mr. Morgret plans on designing automation equipment geared towards small farms.
Mr. Morgret, the Lab and Nathanial's father Brian donate all the masks they create. They rely on any financial donations that they receive, so that they can continue their work in printing face shields and purchasing parts to assemble emergency ventilators.
