ADN Admission Requirements
Spring 2026 Cohort
Applications for the Spring 2026 Cohort will be accepted from September 8, 2025 through October 17, 2025.
The Centofanti School of Nursing admits students to the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program for the Spring semester only. Admission to Youngstown State University allows students to complete program prerequisites and apply for admission to the ADN program.
The admission requirements for the ADN Program consist of two parts:

STEP 1: GENERAL COLLEGE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be fully admitted to Youngstown State University before applying to the nursing program. All official transcripts (high school and/or college) must be submitted to the YSU Office of Admissions.
STEP 2: NURSING PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for admission into the nursing program, the applicant must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older before the first day of class
- Must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum high school GPA of 2.5 (Not required if college coursework has been successfully completed)
- Completion of high school or college-level Chemistry and Biology with a grade of “C” or better
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher for former or current YSU students
- Pre-nursing GPA of 2.5 or higher in required pre-requisite courses
Completion of the following courses (within the last five years) with a grade of “C” or better:
- BIOL 1551/L – Anatomy & Physiology I (with lab)
- STAT 2625 or 2625C – Statistical Literacy and Critical Reasoning
- ENGL 1549 or 1550 – Writing I
STEP 3: REQUIRED TESTING – ATI TEAS
Applicants must complete the ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) and submit official scores to YSU by October 10, 2025.
- Minimum Score: Overall TEAS score of 66% or higher.
- Retakes: The TEAS test can be retaken twice within a 12-month period, with a 14-day waiting period between attempts.
- TEAS scores are valid for two years.
- The ATI TEAS, or Test of Essential Academic Skills, is a standardized test designed specifically to assess a student's preparedness for entering the health science fields. Questions are designed to test the basic academic skills you will need to perform successfully in the areas of: Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage.

STEP 4: REQUESTING A REVIEW
After all admission criteria are met, applicants must submit an Online Request for Review.
Students will not receive a program application unless the request is submitted and all requirements are verified.
- Review Request Opens: September 2, 2025
- Review Request Deadline: October 14, 2025 at 4:00 PM EST
Applicants will receive a response within 2–3 weeks via their YSU student email only. If approved, they will receive a personalized link to apply to the ADN program.
Checklist Before Requesting a Review
Do not request a review until all of the following are complete:
- Have been fully admitted to YSU and have a student ID number
- Have submitted all official transcripts to YSU
- Complete all pre-requisites and meet GPA requirements listed in Step 2.
- TEAS test is taken, the minimum score is met, and scores are submitted to YSU.
- Copy of your “TEAS Test Score Sheet” to upload with your Request for Review. Please make sure to include the full report.

- I understand that submitting a Request for Review does not guarantee admission to the program
Upon a successful review, students will be sent, via YSU Student email, information to proceed with the ADN application. Please note, this process may take 2-3 weeks.
STEP 5: APPLICATION SUBMISSION
Only students who successfully pass the review process will receive a unique link to submit the program application. This link is non-transferable and will be sent to their YSU email.

STEP 6: POST-ACCEPTANCE REQUIREMENTS
Students accepted into the ADN program must complete the following requirements before the first day of class:
- Attend mandatory orientation
- Submit documentation of:
- Medical records
- Current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Health insurance coverage
- Background check and drug screening through CastleBranch
Note: Students who fail to attend orientation, decline their seat, miss the first day of class, or do not complete post-acceptance requirements must reapply and meet all current admissions standards.
