Microelectronics Ecosystem Continues to Expand Under ADMETE Grant from US Air Force
ADMETE Outreach Team at Silly Science Sunday 2021
ADMETE Coordinator Shawntae Burton, along with students Muneer Barnawi, Joao Garretto, Kristen Grunden and RJ Yarwood worked together over the summer to excite and engage more than 240 K-12 students in the Valley with hands-on microelectronics presentations! The team used lessons learned from these summer outreach experiences to launch two new programs at two new community partners, Boardman and Poland Seminary High Schools.
The first weekly ADMETE after-school programs were held at Boardman (Mondays) and Poland Seminary (Tuesdays) the week of September 20th. Students engaged in team building activities, ACT Math instruction as taught by licensed Math teachers hired through the grant. The after-school participants at both schools received brand new Arduino Unos and instruction from the same team of YSU students this summer! Students and staff are having a great time with the after-school program.
October 4th and October 5th ADMETE launched a Lunch and Learn series at both Boardman and Poland Seminary High Schools. Emilie Brown, College of STEM Outreach Coordinator kicked off the series by sharing a powerful presentation with the Seniors! Here are some of their comments from the event:
- “ Perfect Job!”
- “I loved learning more about STEM and everything it has to offer. I learned more than I knew before and it sparked some interest!”
- “I thought it was very educational for me since I want to go into the STEM field. I look forward to attending more in the future.”
Each month will feature a new community partner who will prepare the high school seniors at both schools for the transition to postsecondary education.
There is alot of EXCITEMENT about the partnerships made this summer and the services being offered this school year. The team also had a BLAST at Silly Science Sunday and the ADMETE DEEP mentor meeting?! Check out pictures HERE. The best is yet to come!
