Dr. Farzad Ahmadi is an assistant professor of electrical engineering in the Rayen School of Engineering. Recently, he has been awarded for the extension of one of his industry-based projects. Phase one of the project began in January 2020 and phase two has been extended to October 2021. The new grant received from the extension of the project will provide research assistantship opportunities for students at YSU. The aim of this project is to develop an integrated and digitalized tolerance detection system for the roll manufacturing industry. The fully automated and integrated system reduces operational costs, increases productivity, optimizes performance, improves reliability, and significantly saves time for the quality control process.
This multidisciplinary project has involved three research assistants from the Rayen School of Engineering and the Department of Computer Science, Information and Engineering Technology. Jeremy Siegfried and Yogesh Sapkota are senior and junior students, respectively, in electrical engineering and Dung Nguyen is a junior in computer science. These students also work on another externally funded project under Dr. Ahmadi’s supervision. In addition, Dr. Ahmadi is involved in a federal grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Office of Criminal Justice Services. Dr. Ahmadi’s research interests are in the fields of bio-instrument and health monitoring system, wearable electronics, embedded systems, additive manufacturing technology, and renewable energies.
