New Faculty Member: Dr. Farzad Ahmadi

Dr. Farzad Ahmadi

The STEM College would like to welcome a new member to the STEM family. Please welcome our newest Electrical Engineering faculty member Dr. Farzad Ahmadi.

Dr. Ahmadi was born and raised in Iran. He received his bachelors from Shiraz University of Technology in Shiraz, Iran, his masters degree from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, Iran and his doctorate degree from University of Akron.

Before coming to YSU, Dr. Ahmadi was an instructor of circuit labs at the University of Akron in Fall 2017. In spring 2018, he was a part-time faculty in the electrical and computer engineering department at YSU. Then, he worked as a project engineer in Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) to design electric vehicles in summer 2018. He gained practical experience working with engineers and developers, while collaborating on diverse programs and projects at FCA.

Dr. Ahmadi was interested in giving students the necessary tools that will help them thrive in their career as engineers. He wants his students to recognize the value of what they learn and their importance as part of a larger system. The electrical engineering program at YSU is such a great place for his goals. Dr. Ahmadi is looking forward to teaching new courses that better prepares students for the job market. He would also like to involve students in his research projects. These projects can certainly be adopted to provide undergraduate/graduate students with research opportunities for their senior honors projects/thesis with valuable hands-on experiences for their future careers. Alongside doing that, Dr. Ahmadi wants to upgrade instructional labs, establish senior capstone projects in collaboration with industries, update the curriculum, and recruit underrepresented students.

In fall 2019, Dr. Ahmadi secured external funding from two local companies as a principal investigator in collaboration with Dr. Eric MacDonald and Ms. Kelsey Lyda from the Rayen School of Engineering. These projects are in the field of health monitoring systems and embedded systems. Currently, three undergraduate students from electrical engineering and computer science programs are working on these projects under his supervision.

Dr. Ahmadi is also involved in a federal grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Office of Criminal Justice Services. Starting January 2021, in collaboration with a team from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation, an advanced chip-off technique for digital forensics will be implemented to avoid more losses of vital criminal investigation information. Dr. Ahmadi also has been awarded YSU research professorships for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years. He was also selected to attend the 2020 NSF CAREER Workshop for engineering.

Dr. Ahmadi teaches basic circuit theory 2, digital logic circuits, instrumentation and computation lab 2. He plans on getting involved with the Institute of Electrical or Electronics Engineers (IEEE) organization. If students want to reach out and talk to Dr. Ahmadi, he can be reached at fahmadi@ysu.edu or 330-941-3013. If you want to talk to him in person, his office is located in Moser Hall Room 2042.
