Material Science and Engineering’s Janet Gbur wins APT Center’s Steven Garverick Innovation Incentive Award
Janet Gbur, Research Associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Investigator in the Advanced Platform Technology Center (APTC) at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, has been awarded a grant from the 2020 ATPC Garverick Innovation Incentive Program for her research, “Development of Flexible, Printed Lead Body for Use in Minimally Invasive Pain Management Systems.” The grant, matched by the Cleveland VA Medical Research & Education Foundation, provides $50,000 in direct costs to fund innovative research related to the emphasis areas of the APTC.
Gbur and APTC co-Investigators Dustin Tyler (Kent H. Smith Professor II of Biomedical Engineering and Associate Director, Advanced Platform Technology Center), Kath Bogie (Associate Professor, Departments of Orthopaedics & Biomedical Engineering CWRU and VA Research Career Scientist), and Doug Shire (VA Research Health Scientist) will develop a flexible, implantable printed lead body that will address the challenges of fabricating high density electrode electronics while maintaining robust chronic performance.
The annual award program is named in memory of Steven Garverick, a former Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and advisor to the APTC from its inception. The Garverick Innovation Incentive program fosters stronger ties between investigators associated with the APTC and interested clinical collaborators, and provides support to acquire the preliminary data required to support future independent funding.
The APTC is a VA Rehabilitation Research Center at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center established in partnership with Case Western Reserve University.
