Career Corner: Summer 2021 Internships and Co-ops Push New Boundaries!
Despite the continuously shifting job market in the COVID-19 era, our students continue to push boundaries and explore uncharted territory for STEMGuins! Seventy students registered for either an internship or co-op for summer 2021 in Ohio and across the United States! Additionally, there are approximately 100+ students that completed internships or co-ops this summer but did not register them with the University.
Science internships were at an all-time high for Summer 2021, completing internships at several new sites including Wolf Park, a nonprofit education and wolf research facility in Indiana. Four students were accepted into the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP), learning about various health professions and networking with health professionals at competitive universities across the nation. Students also participated in math and physics research programs at the University of Texas at Austin and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In engineering, 4 students continue to be at the forefront of battery-cell technology, spending the summer at Ultium Cells. Other students continue to gain experiences at newer sites and industries such as Materion Corporation, Exelon Corporation, and NNE, a company specializing in pharmaceutical engineering. Safran, an aerospace company, hired a YSU STEM student for a Summer 2021 internship and is now registered for the Fall 2021 F-2-F/Virtual STEM Expo. We are excited to continuing watching the growth and success of our co-op, internship, and research programs!
