Butler Institute of American Art (on YSU campus)


The Butler Institute is the first museum of American art. The original structure, dedicated in 1919, is listed on the National Register of Historic places. The museum's mission is to preserve and collect works of art in all media created by citizens of our country. The Institute's holdings now exceed 20,000 individual works, and the Butler is known worldwide as "America's Museum."

Ward Beecher Planetarium (on YSU Campus)


The university's planetarium, located in Ward-Beecher Hall, was recently renovated. The $750,000 upgrade included an all new interior which seats approximately 150, a SciDome full-dome video projector, as well as a Chronos star projector from Spitz. Scheduled shows available Friday and Saturday evenings (with a show geared toward a younger crowd Saturday afternoons). All shows are free of charge.

Arms Family Museum (Adjacent to YSU Campus)


Greystone, the magnificent Arts & Crafts style residence of Olive A. and Wilford P. Arms is preserved a century later as The Arms Family Museum of Local History. On the first floor, in original period rooms, experience the Arms' love of handicraft, medieval architecture and design, and the natural environment.

Mill Creek Park


Mill Creek MetroParks offers over 4,400 acres of diverse lands throughout Mahoning County, Ohio. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities and sites. Take a leisurely walk through a magnificent formal gardens and visitor center, tour a historic grist mill, experience a 400-acre working farm, tee off on a championship golf course, participate in a class, attend a special event, view natural habitats with abundant wildlife, or just enjoy the many scenic vistas parkwide.

Clarence Smith Mineral Museum


The Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum is located in the atrium of Moser Hall (Engineering Science Building) within the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CSTEM) at Youngstown State University.
