Public Health Major

The public health program offers students a unique and flexible way to complete their BSAS degree. The coursework within the program provides students with training in the five core disciplines of public health which include Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Health Policy and Management, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

In addition to completing all core coursework students will select one of the following emphasis areas:

  • Public health generalist
  • Health education and promotion
  • Environmental health and safety

At the conclusion of the program students are required to complete an internship tailored to their area of interest in public health.

This public health curriculum enables mastery at the bachelor’s level of the nationally recognized Public Health Core Competencies and can prepare students to become a Certified Health Education Specialist. All of the major courses that are part of the BSAS curriculum are offered in an online asynchronous format.

Also available to public health students is an:

  • Accelerated “4+1” program that allows students to earn a Master of Public Health degree in one year after completing their bachelor’s degree.

For non-public health majors there is also:

  • Public Health Minor. The public health minor can enhance to educational experience of students in all majors and is particularly complementary for students in health care programs.
