ODHE Awards $1,400,000 to YSU for STEMM Scholarships The Ohio Department of Higher Education recently announced YSU as a recipient of a $1.4 million Choose Ohio First scholarship grant. This is in addition to the $1.6 million awarded in 2021. These scholarships directly support the recruitment and retention of Ohio students in STEMM fields. |

FIVE students accepted to prestigious Physics Research Summer programs! Each year, the National Science Foundation (NSF) funds research opportunities for undergraduate students through the REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program at universities nationwide. Each site typically hosts approximately 10 students each summer to participate in full-time research with a faculty mentor and often participate in seminars and present their work at the end of the summer. REUs are extremely competitive and prestigious. We are thrilled to share that five students majoring in Physics have been accepted to participate in an REU this summer. |

Physics Professor Gives TEDx on a New Approach to Treating Neurological Disease Dr. Gregg Sturrus, Chair of the Department of Physics, Astronomy, Geology and Environmental Science recently gave a TEDx talk on a new way to cure neurological diseases like Alzheimer's. Dr. Sturrus is working with local Halberd Corporation on this research. |

Over 80 Students Participate in Regional Choose Ohio First Poster Symposium Students in the Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program (COFSP) recently traveled to Cleveland State University for the annual COFSP Poster Symposium to practice giving a research presentation and receive feedback from faculty and industry judges. Two YSU projects took home "Top Poster" awards! |
