Student Organization Spotlight: Pre-Dental Society

As a first-year student Shreeya Manandhar, Pre-Dental Society President, was uncertain of her major. Although she eventually landed on pre-dentistry, she didn’t find other pre-dental students she could relate with until her junior year. The Pre-Dental Society was founded to help other pre-dental students connect from the beginning of their college career.

The Pre-Dental Society is for any students in pre-dentistry or dental hygiene with the goal of keeping students educated and informed. The group will host speakers, organize community service opportunities, and more as they pursue their dream of becoming America’s future dentists and dental hygienists. Recently, for example, group members volunteered at the OhWOW Science Center in downtown, Youngstown for their annual Silly Science Sunday event. They provided hands-on activities, including one demonstrating proper tooth brushing, to spark an early interest in dentistry for young children.

In addition to some planned guest speakers, the club is also planning a tooth carving sip and paint event to practice their steady hand, as well as offer study materials to prep for taking the DAT and assistance in applying to dental school.

Any students interested in knowing more should contact President Shreeya Manandhar.
