Student Organization Spotlight: American Institute of Professional Geologists

The American Institute of Professional Geologists student chapter was established in 2016. Its purpose is to provide students with opportunities to interact directly with professional geologists of northeastern Ohio.

Student members are invited to professional meetings, receive funding opportunities for field experiences, develop professional contacts for future employment opportunities and have active membership status in the national and local organization. The greatest benefit is the initiation of the professional network that will grow throughout their future careers and continue to provide benefits and professional advancement opportunities.

Although in-person events have been challenging, the group recently hosted a virtual meeting with Barb Dunst, a licensed professional geologist and president of the Pennsylvania Council of Professional Geologists. She spoke about career options in Geology and the steps to becoming a professional geologist.

If any students are interested in the American Institute of Geologists Student Organization, contact Dr. Jeffrey Dick at jcdick@ysu.edu to set up a meeting where he can discuss involvement in the organization.
