STEM Editor Takes on New Position During the Pandemic

Ahmasi Martin

New STEM Editor during the Pandemic

In the midst of the global pandemic, the STEM College quietly added a new member to its Social Media Team. Please welcome the new STEM Social Media and Newsletter Editor, Ahmasi Martin!

Ahmasi is a fourth-year student from Chicago, Illinois, and is majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in Psychology. He came to YSU so that he can experience college in a different location and see what life was like in a smaller town. He found the change of scenery interesting. After trying out three different majors, Ahmasi finally decided to do an ICP (Individualized Curriculum Program) in Creative writing to support his goal of one day being a film writer.

When the STEM social media team was looking for a new editor, Ahmasi applied for the position believing it would be a good writing challenge and for him to get a new experience. Little did he know that just a couple weeks after being hired, the university (world) would shut down and his entire training would take place virtually! Ahmasi fully took on the Newsletter editor position in May 2020 and has worked the entire position during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Although much of this position has always, by nature, been computer-based, the types of stories, access and availability of students and employees, and lack of in-person events have definitely made this past year quite different and also differently-challenging. Fortunately, with the help from his amazing supervisor, Emilie Brown, Ahmasi was able to succeed in unprecedented times.

After he graduates, Ahmasi plans on going to film school to become a screenwriter and director. If any students, staff, or faculty have any stem news please email it to STEMnews@ysu.edu or if you want to contact the editor directly, please email to admartin05@student.ysu.edu.
