STEM College Introduces New Academic Advising Structure, Welcomes 3 Additional Advisors
Pictured from left: Emily Campbell, Jenna Pavlansky, and Emily Carnahan
In conjunction with a campus-wide initiative, the STEM College has hired three additional academic advisors and re-structured the advising process for current students. Across campus, students will notice a few changes:
- All academic/curriculum advising will be done by professional advisors; students will no longer see faculty advisors for course advisement before registration
- The same advisor will be assigned to a student from the beginning of their academic career through graduation
- Advising before registration will now be required for students with fewer than 60 credit hours
These changes are part of an overarching retention and support model that has already seen an increase in student persistence and satisfaction. CLICK HERE to see the new STEM advising assignments and who your advisor will be.
To help distribute the increased caseload of students, three new advisors were recently added to the STEM Advising Center Staff. Please join us in welcoming them!
Emily Carnahan
Emily Carnahan is a Warren, Ohio native. She earned her Bachelors in English at Kent State University and then attended YSU for her Masters in Student Affairs and College Counseling. During her time in the graduate program, she served as a Graduate Assistant for the Academic Achievers Program based out of her alma mater- Warren G. Harding High School.
Upon earning her Masters, Emily initially was hired as an academic advisor at Kent State, but she was excited for the opportunity to come back “home” to YSU. She’s most looking forward to connecting with students and watching them grow in their respective fields of study.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys Tai Chi, shopping, and make-up! She wants to remind all students- “No one is you, and that’s your superpower!”
Emily's office is located in Moser Hall, Room 2306. You can also email her at ercarnahan@ysu.edu.
Emily Campbell
Emily Campbell is a Canfield, Ohio native and two-time YSU graduate. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies with concentrations in English and History and then continued on for her Masters in Counseling in the Student Affairs Track.
Before returning to YSU, Emily worked at both Mount Union and the University of Akron. However, she is happy to be back in a place that she holds such a strong connection to and many good memories!
“I am thrilled to be working with students in STEM because they are all so ambitious and full of curiosity. The STEM College offers so many opportunities for students to work directly with great minds and gain purposeful, hands on experience from day one in the class room. Knowing that I get to be part of that experience and help students on their journey toward a meaningful career is why I love academic advising.”
In her free time, Emily enjoys reading, hiking in Mill Creek, antiquing, experimenting in the kitchen, and spending time with family, friends, and her Boston Terrier mix, Poppy.
Emily invites students to stop by and say hello- she’s looking forward to meeting you! You can find her in Moser Hall, Room 2307 or email her at eecampbell@ysu.edu.
Jenna Pavlansky
Jenna Pavlansky joins us from her hometown of Boardman, Ohio and is also a two-time YSU grad, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Masters in Counseling in the Student Affairs Track.
During her time as a graduate student, Jenna worked in the Office of Career Exploration and Development. She was so happy with her educational and work experience at YSU that she directed her sites on eventual full-time employment. She is excited to have the opportunity to join the STEM advising team and is looking forward to getting to know the students and watching all of their successes!
When she’s not at work, Jenna enjoys reading, exercising, taking her dog on walks, binge-watching on Netflix, coffee, music, and hanging out with family and friends.
Jenna's office is in Moser Hall, Room 2280. You can also email her at jlpavlansky@ysu.edu
