Spring 2021 Virtual STEM Expo

Spring 2021 Virtual STEM Expo

Earlier this semester, STEM students and alumni geared up for another Virtual STEM Expo hosted by the STEM Careers, Internships and Co-ops office. The office hosted its first ever Virtual STEM Expo during October 5-9, 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Students traveled to Stambaugh Stadium where a quiet, physical space and technology were provided for students to conduct these sessions. The format of the Spring 2021 Virtual STEM Expo was similar with a small twist! The virtual event was split over February 9-10 and March 9-10, 2021 to provide more opportunities for employers interested in connecting with students.

Over the course of February and March, 37 employers, locally and nationally, virtually connected with our STEM students and alumni. Employers met with students and alumni to provide information on their organizations and discuss potential openings for internships, co-ops and full-time positions. Although a total of 188 students participated in at least 1 group or 1:1 session with an employer, there were many other students who attended as many as 8 sessions. Overall, students participated in 311 1:1 sessions and 83 students attended group sessions throughout February and March.

Despite COVID-19 sweeping in an era of unprecedented events in higher education and the workforce, STEM students and alumni continue to persist and pursue experiential learning and full-time opportunities to prepare for and enter the workforce. Thank you to Butech Bliss, sponsor of the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 STEM Expo, for their continued support of STEM career programming at YSU and to all of the employers who participated in the Spring 2021 Virtual STEM Expo. Additionally, thank you to the volunteers who helped make this event a success. Be sure to look out for more information on the Fall 2021 Expo!
