Remembering Dave Kurtanich

Dave Kurtanich, who passed away Thursday, July 18th, 2013

Youngstown State University College of STEM would like to celebrate the life of one of its own: a friend, professor, and colleague. Dave Kurtanich, who passed away Thursday, July 18th, 2013, was remembered July 22, 2013, by all who knew and loved him. Dave was born March 7th, 1956 in Sharon, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Sharon High School, he attended YSU and earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Continuing his education, Dave went to Carnegie Mellon University and earned a master’s degree in Civil Engineering. One of the most endearing things about Dave was his passion for engineering and his students. He started off at Kurtanich Engineers and Associates, Inc., and then, after 17 years of previous experience, he joined the faculty at YSU in 1997. Dave was a major part of the engineering community in the Valley. He published many articles and was a licensed engineer in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. Students for years appreciated his helpfulness and clarity when he taught. Dave was the kind of professor that believed the more a student tried, the more he could help. He would go over the material so that every student understood. Dave had also served as the Director of the School of Engineering Technology starting in 2007. Carol Lamb has since taken over as the interim director.
