NSF Awards Grant for Summer Undergraduate Research in Math
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has been awarded a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduate Students grant for a project titled: "The Youngstown State University Beginning Undergraduates' Mathematical research Preparation, (YSU-BUMP)". YSU BUMP will bring 12 undergraduate students from around the U.S. to YSU each summer for 3 years to conduct research in mathematics and statistics.
Grant PI, Dr. Alicia Prieto, says “this is one of the few programs aimed at freshmen/sophomore students. We want to give students the opportunity to get involved in research early in their academic career, with the hope that this will help them become comfortable seeking further opportunities.”
Dr. Tom Wakefield, Dr. Alexis Byers, Dr. Thomas Madsen, Dr. Lucy Kerns and Dr. Paddy Taylor will serve as project advisors. The program will be assessed by Dr. Cryshanna Jackson Leftwich from the Department of Politics and International Relations.
