Two STEM Scholarship programs kicked off their first cohort of recipients this fall. Dr. Cory Brozina, Associate Director of the Rayen School of Engineering and Director of First-Year Engineering, oversees the applications and awarding of both the DEEP-C and ADMETE Scholarships for incoming STEM majors. The scholarships focus on recruiting and retaining engineering majors through financial support along with a structured program of meetings, mentoring, group activities, and professional skill-building workshops. You can read more by clicking these links for DEEP-C and ADMETE.

We are now accepting applications to BOTH programs for students entering in Fall 2022. The priority application deadline is December 1st.

This month, we feature 4 more of the initial cohort members. Read about the 5 that we highlighted last month HERE.

Nicholas DeLullo

My name is Nicholas DeLullo, and my major is Electrical Engineering Technology.  My hometown is Poland, and I went to Poland Seminary High School where I was a member of the Spanish National Honors society.  I look forward to finding my career while studying my major of EET.  I chose engineering because most of my generation has worked in the field of electricity, and I thought that EET would be a cool avenue to explore. I want to make a good living off my degree. I think that the DEEP program will benefit me because it will help me to further explore the field of engineering and open up new opportunities.

Dante Mangieri

Hi, my name is Dante Mangieri and I'm from New Castle, Pennsylvania. I am a mechanical/electrical engineering double major here at YSU. I was in robotics in high school, which is what inspired me to pursue my current majors. I want to use my degrees in a way to produce a cleaner society. There are so many ways we live and operate that cause excessive damage to the planet, and we need to start changing something quick. YSU and the DEEP program will hopefully put me a step ahead academically and give me the early connections needed to figure out how I can succeed after I graduate.

Nathan Ferguson

My name is Nathan Ferguson and I am majoring in Electrical Engineering Technology. I grew up in Austintown Ohio and graduated from Austintown Fitch in 2021. In high school, I played tennis and performed in various bands including marching band, symphonic band, and jazz band. What I look forward to the most at YSU is playing in the Tennis Club and learning more about my major. I chose to study engineering because the programs here at YSU are world class and I can envision myself having much success taking this path in my life. The DEEP Program at YSU will help me achieve my goals by providing me with outreach to employers as well as with resources to help me grow in my major.

Brett Tyree

My name is Brett Tyree. I'm majoring in Civil Engineering originally from New Castle, Pennsylvania, and attended New Castle Senior High School. In high school, I participated in my school's VEX Robotics team, attended numerous Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competitions, and won the 2021 Ellwood Group Engineering Day competition. At YSU, I look forward to enhancing my education and gaining connections. I chose Civil Engineering because it has been interesting to me for as long as I can remember; When I was just 5, I was seemingly always drawing roads and bridges and looking on Google Maps. The DEEP Program will help further advance my education at YSU through its various preparation activities and meetings.
