ms consultants Long-lasting Commitment and Connection to YSU

ms consultants

ms consultants was founded in 1963, right in Youngstown, Ohio, by Thomas F. Mosure and Thomas Fok. The company was originally started as a transportation engineering services provider. Throughout the years, ms has grown to be a full-service engineering, architecture, and planning firm that works on transportation, water/wastewater, land development, energy, buildings, and more.

The company has continued to stay involved in the Youngstown community in many ways. ms works on many public projects to improve the roads, water, bridges, and other community needs for Youngstown and the surrounding Mahoning Valley region. Beyond projects, ms stays active in local community organizations. The company continually gives back to organizations and initiatives like the United Way’s Success After 6 Program, Young Women’s Mentorship Program, and Project MORE. Additionally, employees regularly come together for community events, like Panerathon and the YMCA Community Cup.

The relationship between ms and YSU started from the beginning. Thomas F. Mosure was a graduate of YSU’s engineering program, a football player, and later taught at the university. Thomas E. Mosure, current Chairman of the Board and former President, received his master’s in engineering from YSU. Mike Kratofil, current company President, is also a YSU engineering graduate.

Today, ms stays involved with YSU in several ways. Not only does the company hire YSU interns and graduates, but ms has a physical presence on the campus. First, there’s the Thomas F. Mosure Hall of Gridiron glory to honor and preserve the history of Youngstown State football. Second, there are a number of campus projects that ms worked on. Two very notable projects are the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) and the Don Constantini Multimedia Center, located in Stambaugh Stadium. Additionally, multiple ms employees also teach YSU students. Current and recent instructors include Phyllis Schaab, Justin Kuczynski, and Larry Webster. Lastly, Randy Barker, Construction Manager, is President of the YSU Football Alumni Association.

Over the last 10 years, ms has hired more than 20 interns from YSU. These interns have worked on several projects across all areas of our engineering, architecture, and planning organizations. Not only do interns bring fresh perspectives and new ideas, they’re ready and willing to learn. The internships give students a real-world experience, so they are prepared for the workforce upon graduation. ms takes great pride in being able to hire interns as full-time employees after graduation, and has found success in bringing these talented individuals on board. In fact, 2021 grad Jillian Penman started as an intern and is currently a Graduate Engineer in our structural division; Torrey Burkes, a 2014 YSU grad, began at the firm part-time and is a Structural Engineering; and our current President, Mike Kratofil started his career at ms as an intern from YSU!
