FACULTY FACTION

Nazanin Naderi

This month we spotlight two new faculty members who have joined the STEM College over the last several months: Dr. Nazanin Naderi and Dr. Carmen Panaitof.

Nazanin Naderi is an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management from Gachsaran, Iran. She received her bachelor’s in industrial engineering from Polytechnic University in Tehran, Iran, and her masters degree from Tehran University. She later moved to Lubbock, Texas where she earned her Ph.D in industrial engineering from Texas Tech University.

Before she started teaching at YSU, Dr. Naderi taught at Texas Tech University, Oklahoma University, Kennesaw State University, and University of Florida. She was interested in teaching at YSU because of YSU’s emphasis on quality of teaching, its friendly environment, and its incredibly intelligent students.

One of Dr. Naderi’s goals are to improve the quality of the Industrial Engineering program, along with its curriculum and its connection to the industry. Dr. Naderi teaches Operations Research, Advanced Quality Control, Advanced Engineering Economy, and Engineering Statistics. Outside of the classroom, Dr, Naderi is planning to involve some health provider organizations to expand her research activities, and hire and involve more students in that research.

If students want to contact her, she can best be reached be email nnaderi@ysu.edu(link sends e-mail)

Dr. Carmen Panaitof, an Assistant Professor of Biology, is originally from Bucharest, Romania. She got her bachelor’s in biology and master’s in neurobiology from the University of Bucharest, and got her Ph.D in Zoology at the University of New Hampshire. Before teaching at YSU, Dr. Panaitof taught at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and College of Saint Mary, Omaha.

Dr. Panaitof came to YSU because of its strong offering of STEM programs and in particular Biological Sciences. She felt the programs were well poised to prepare students for in demand fields in the biomedical sciences and health-related professions. She felt that YSU has a strong tradition of serving and engaging its surrounding community via the myriad opportunities for education and research and is proud to be part of that endeavor.

In the future, Dr. Panaitof would like to develop specialty courses and continue to teach classes that best help her students in their profession of choice- whether life sciences or health-related professions, graduate or medical school. She is currently recruiting students interested in biomedical research to join her research laboratory. Dr. Panaitof would like to see the support for undergraduate research continue to grow, as she sees research experience critical to being successful in a STEM career.

If students want to visit her office or contact her, she is located in Ward Beecher Hall 4021A and can best be reached by email scpanaitof@ysu.edu
