Company with YSU ties finds pleasure in giving back
Calibration Services, Inc. is an ISO 17025 Accredited laboratory committed to working with the YSU STEM program in an attempt to help the Engineering laboratories maintain, calibrate, and improve the operation of their mechanical and process testing equipment. Their program is unique in that they work closely with the client to provide services to repair, maintain, and upgrade equipment so that it meets the current requirements for any standard tests used in lab offerings to students. They aid the University in keeping testing equipment functioning and relevant to the testing performed by utilizing products which do not have planned obsolescence. Calibration Services, Inc. has source technology which will prevent departments from having to replace equipment prematurely due to lack of product support. They also help source providers who offer free product support to eliminate costly support issues after installation. If they have surplus equipment available, they like to offer it to the University to improve laboratories.
Calibration Services, Inc. is committed to being a partner with the YSU STEM program. President, Bill Stump, says “We have a long history of YSU grads in our family and I am excited to work with YSU STEM as a partner in improving any aspects we can to make the STEM program a valuable asset to the University.” Mr. Stump’s grandmother went to YSU, his step-son is a senior majoring in electrical engineering, and his daughter is majoring in business.
Dr. Rick Deschenes, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, had this to say:
“Mr. Bill Stump of Calibration Services, Inc. has been a great help to the Civil/Environmental and Chemical Engineering Department at YSU. In the Fall of 2018, He donated his many years of experience with calibration and service for mechanical testing frames, strain gages, dial indicators, proving rings, geotechnical test equipment, etc. to calibrate all the laboratory equipment in the Strengths of Materials, Concrete Materials, and Geotechnical Engineering laboratories at YSU. He also helped the CE program to retrofit one of the tension/compression frames with a digital controller and data acquisition system and provided the installation and calibration of the system. He has continued to offer support when equipment malfunctions, and in the Fall of 2020 he and his team calibrated all the equipment in the labs at a discounted rate. His generosity has been a tremendous support to the teaching and research efforts of the STEM College!"
Students interested in working in the Calibration Services Industry as a career field, should have an educational background in one of the following areas: civil engineering; mechanical engineering; or computer science to control machines. Students hired into a new position at Mr. Stump’s company are trained specifically upon hire for their role at Calibration Services, Inc.
