Painter Sarah Awad Will Present a Virtual Informal Lecture on Tuesday, October 19, at Noon
On Tuesday, October 19 at noon, painter Sarah Awad will give a free virtual lecture. Awad, whose artwork has appeared in exhibitions around the world, holds an M.F.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. The lecture is free and open to the public
Sarah Awad’s vividly colorful and sensual exploration of the female nude is in dialogue with Fauvism, Color Field abstraction, and the Neo-Expressionist works of the 1980s. Rather than merely importing elements from these art historical movements, Awad depicts her female subjects floating in indeterminate landscapes, as amorphous masses moving freely across the surface of her canvas.
She combines the heavy layering of oils and sweeping gestures with intersecting geometric planes and abstract landscapes. Her works lack the rigorous anatomical study most often associated with the tradition of painting the nude and instead celebrate the vitality and expressiveness of the human form.
