Student Office Assistant
Position Description: A Student Office Assistant provides support for the full range of general office procedures. The Assistant will greet callers and answer a variety of questions regarding the Department and University in a mature and professional manner. The Assistant will pick-up, deliver, and distribute mail and correspondence. Knowledge of LaTeX is of importance, as the Assistant will convert mathematical documents using the software. The Assistant will learn operation and maintenance of copy machine and Risograph in order to complete work orders. In addition, the Assistant will assist in updating bulletin boards in building. Other duties will be as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Good written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, basic information related to the Mathematics and Statistics program and general University information.
Student Software Specialist
Position Description: Student Software Specialists are responsible for computer lab support and maintenance (e.g., rebuilding hard drive images, installing software, troubleshooting lab network problems and hardware problems, interfacing with Network Services and Electronics Maintenance Services to solve network and hardware problems, etc.); faculty/staff computer support including set-up, software installation and troubleshooting; creating of software and programming on Media and Academic Computing systems, including, but not limited to Web and mainframe interfaces, and searchable databases; and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge of and experience in multiple areas relevant to the above job description (e.g., knowledge of HTML, UNIX, Windows XP, Microsoft Office, Ghost, C++, FrontPage, Ethernet, TCP/IP); ability to complete work orders in a timely fashion; ability to work with the public in a professional manner; strong organizational skills; ability to work independently, yet carefully follow instructions, depending on circumstances; and desire and aptitude for learning. Working on undergraduate degree in Computer Science is preferred but not required.
