Youngstown State University’s chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists has a rich history of great service to local and regional journalism.
Founded in 1998, members of the YSU chapter have conducted workshops, led panel discussions, mentored high school journalists and worked to promote the First Amendment.
The YSU chapter has also raised money for the Student Press Law Center.
Faculty members and current SCJ members must nominate new members. Nominations are based on academic performance as well as professional publication and experience.
Once affiliated, members can enter special contents and compete for scholarships.
Students can ask professors or SCJ members to nominate them if they are interested in becoming members of the journalism honorary. An initiation ceremony is typically held early during the Spring semester.
